Affordable, Expert Tree Trimming on the Texas Gulf Coast

At Root Branch 'N' All, we understand that your trees are more than part of the landscape. A well-pruned live oak or pecan adds shade, curb appeal and value to your property, while an overgrown one can scrape the roof, block light and drop limbs in the next tropical storm. Our tree trimming and pruning service keeps your trees healthy and good-looking all year round.

Owner John Otis and his crew are arborist-trained and safety-trained by a professional instructor, and we are OSHA-trained. Customers tell us John is "a bit of an artist" with how he cleans out suckers, trims new growth and brings it in line with the natural shape of the tree, and that's the standard we hold every job to.

Why Trim Your Trees?

  • Safety. Removing dead, cracked and hazardous branches before they fall on the house, car or someone in the yard.
  • Storm readiness. Thinning the canopy reduces weight and wind resistance, which matters during hurricane season.
  • Clearance. Lifting limbs off the roof, away from gutters and over driveways, sidewalks and streets.
  • Tree health. Proper pruning removes diseased wood, improves air flow and encourages strong, healthy growth.
  • Looks. Aesthetic shaping that balances the canopy and shows off the tree's natural form.

Our Tree Trimming and Pruning Services

Crown Thinning

Selective removal of interior branches to let light and wind through the canopy. Thinning keeps the tree's shape while making it lighter and less likely to fail in high winds.

Crown Raising and Clearance Pruning

Removing lower limbs so you can walk, mow and park under the tree, and trimming back branches that touch the roof or crowd the house.

Deadwooding and Hazard Limb Removal

Cutting out dead, broken, hanging and weakly attached limbs, from aesthetic shaping all the way to removing hazardous branches over structures.

Sucker and Water Sprout Cleanup

Cleaning out the fast, weak shoots that sprout from trunks and limbs and steal energy from the rest of the tree.

Shaping Young and Mature Trees

Structural pruning while trees are young sets them up for a strong frame, and careful shaping of mature and historic oaks keeps them healthy for decades.

Why We Don't Top Trees

Topping, cutting the whole top of a tree back to stubs, is one of the most common and most damaging things done to trees. It leaves large wounds that decay, and the regrowth is a mass of weakly attached shoots that break easily in storms. A topped tree often needs more work later, not less.

We show customers what to do instead. One reviewer wrote that John "did a great job of showing us what to do instead of topping our trees. But when one of them wasn't able to be saved he stopped trimming it and let us make the decision." Proper thinning and reduction cuts get the size and weight down while keeping the tree healthy.

Seasonal Pruning: When to Trim Trees on the Gulf Coast

Seasonal pruning is essential to the health and longevity of your trees. We know when and how to prune to promote good growth and prevent disease, from the delicate work of spring pruning to the structural cuts that are best made in winter.

SeasonGood Time For
Winter (dormant season)Structural pruning and thinning while leaves are down and the tree's shape is easy to see. A popular time to work on oaks.
SpringLight pruning and pre-storm checkups ahead of hurricane season. Keep cuts on oaks minimal during this time.
SummerRemoving dead or hazardous limbs and clearing branches off roofs and lines before peak storm season.
FallCleanup after storm season and planning winter work.
Any timeDead, broken or dangerous limbs should come out as soon as they are found.

On oaks, the Texas A&M Forest Service recommends avoiding pruning in spring where oak wilt is a concern and sealing fresh oak wounds, so we plan oak work around that.

Trimming Big, Old and Historic Trees

Many of our customers have prized 60-plus-year-old live oaks and century-old trees. These trees deserve someone who knows how much to take and when to stop. One customer with three valuable live oaks told us we did "a great job trimming appropriately without overdoing it!" Another had us trim and shape a historic oak spread over three buildings with difficult access, and we still cleaned up every leaf and trimming.

For high limbs, our 60 ft bucket truck lets us work safely from above instead of overloading the tree with climbers and ropes.

Clean Yard, Every Time

Trimming makes a mess, and we don't leave it for you. Limbs go through our chipper on site and we take all the leftovers with us, or you can keep the mulch for your beds. See our brush chipping service for more on what we do with the debris.

Feeding, Maintenance and Tree Surgery

Pruning is one part of keeping a tree healthy. For trees that are struggling, we also offer tree feeding and maintenance plans, and tree surgery for trees with disease, structural weakness or storm damage. When a tree can't be saved, we'll tell you, and handle the tree removal safely.

Tree Trimming Near You

We trim trees throughout Dickinson, League City, Friendswood, Pearland, Clear Lake, Galveston and the rest of our Gulf Coast service area.

Tree Trimming FAQ

How Often Should Trees Be Trimmed?

Most mature shade trees benefit from pruning every few years, while young trees need more frequent structural pruning. Trees near the house or lines may need clearance trimming more often. We will suggest a schedule that fits your trees.

When Is the Best Time to Trim Trees?

Winter, while trees are dormant, is a great time for structural pruning and thinning. Dead or hazardous limbs should be removed any time of year, and many homeowners schedule a checkup before hurricane season.

Will Trimming Hurt My Oak Tree?

Proper pruning helps oaks. Topping and over-thinning hurt them. We take only what the tree needs, make clean cuts, and plan oak work around seasonal oak wilt guidance.

Do You Haul Away the Branches?

Yes. We chip limbs on site and take the leftovers with us, or leave the mulch if you would like it.

How Much Does Tree Trimming Cost?

It depends on the size and number of trees, how much needs to come out, and access. We give free estimates with clear pricing and no hidden fees.

Can You Trim Trees Near Power Lines?

We follow utility arboriculture regulations when working near lines. Call and describe the situation, and we will let you know how we can help.
